Vegetable garden gone wild

Join

So as you might know from previous posts, I have a vegetable garden at the back of the house. We only started this new gardening adventure this year so we are really newbies and made a few mistakes as could be expected. We were blessed with many vegetables nonetheless.

Lavender, cosmos, pumpkin!

This image shows some random pumpkin seed that must have turned up to the surface while digging the beds this spring. It was totally unexpected and took over our lettuce bed and beyond. You can also see a little lavender plant and some cosmos - these were planted in a side bed to attract some beneficial insects.

We had green beans, tomatoes (different varieties), zucchini (although weird in shape and really big!), pumpkin, chard, red and yellow peppers, aubergines, lettuces and various herbs such as basil, parsley, sage and chives.

Here you can see some of our tomatoes and the weird zucchini things that are really enjoying life in our back yard!

During the summer dad and I went to the UK for work and mom stayed home with my sister who doesn’t do gardening. Mom has had a fractured knee for quite some time so it was best that she didn’t spend too much time in the yard either. So needless to say our vegetable garden turned into a wild jungle! :)

Veggies gone wild Sage, Basil, Chives, Pumpkin!

Here is a look at our wild vegetable garden and the lettuce bed, there are no lettuces left though, only the sage, basil and chives remain - oh, and the random pumpkin plant!

We had sunflowers that reached way higher than the wall around our yard and the various squash plants just took over!

We are planning on ripping out most of it soon. It’s still quite hot here in the day, but in the evenings it cools down quite a bit and the tomato plants are already turning brown. We will probably put our plastic “greenhouse” tunnel up again this winter so that we can protect some of our stronger plants for *hopefully* a better harvest next year!

Any suggestions for a newbie would be appreciated! :)

Your garden looks wonderful. What a great experience your first time out. That zucchini does look a little unique. Makes for a interesting picture. I though it was a very big snake at first!
