Today I tackled something that has been haunting me for ages… my wardrobe!

I was visiting at Rachel Anne’s place the other day and she had decided that the “small thing” for the day was to sort out our shoes. That was quite a simple task for me since I don’t have that many shoes, but what this small thing inspired was quite a big thing, for me anyway.
I arrived home after work, did the washing and then thought it a good idea to clean up the kitchen and pack the dishwasher. My thinking was that I could tackle the shoes and maybe my wardrobe while the dishwasher noisily cleaned my dishes. That way by the time I was finished the dishes would also be clean!

This is what my shoes looked like before and after I tackled them. Firstly my summer sandals were still out and they were all over the place. I’d already stopped wearing them because it’s really gotten cold lately! I cleaned up the summer shoes and some winter shoes I had pulled out of storage. I then put those skimpy sandals away since I won’t be needing them for a long time. What do you think of my effort? I don’t really have that many shoes now do I? Hmm…
After dealing with the shoes I was on a roll and ready to tackle the wardrobe!

As you can see *blushing* there was a lot of chaos in my wardrobe! I even had clothes in there that belong to at least 4 other people! Crazy…
So I had to come up with an easy sorting plan. I started unpacking the wardrobe one item at a time - so that I didn’t risk dropping smaller hidden items on the floor as I worked. Each item was then folded and sorted onto one of several piles including summer clothes, sweaters/pullovers, long pants, vesty tops I could wear under other winter tops, pyjamas, long sleeve shirts, ironing, underwear, etc…

Once everything was sorted and the wardrobe was empty, I started repacking it. I simply had to neatly stack each pile on a shelf, simple as that! I even found a pretty box wherein I had stored my little winter blankets and decided to use it for my underwear since I now had a whole shelf that was empty and the blankets no longer need to be stored. *Brrr…* Look what a difference that made!!

And as if that wasn’t enough I went on to tidy up the rest of my bedroom too!
I’m very happy about how it all turned out. I feel much better about looking for clothes as I don’t have to worry about stray socks and other odd things rolling out while I’m digging through the mess. I think this will probably help with timesaving and I might start wearing some outfits that have been hiding in there all this time but were out of sight!
What did you tackle this week?

Thanks for stopping by. I am VERY impressed at what you did in your closet. I think one of your shelves is about the size of my whole closet - LOL! Great job!!!

WOW WOW! I can’t believe how much you got done! It looks incredible!…You’ve inspired ME now. I think I might just tackle my clothes (which are stacked haphazardly). I need to get rid of most of what’s in my closet, so maybe tomorrow I will take a stab at it.
Thanks so much for participating! I’ve really enjoyed my visit! Love your new blog.
Way to go! Doesn’t it feel good? Nice to meet another company girl.

@Cheryl - Thanks! :) Haha… yeah, this wardrobe is very old. It belonged to the previous owners of the house, an old couple, both passed away now. That is just one of three identical parts! Two have shelves (which we put in because they all had bars only) and the one still has a bar for hanging things. I plan on buying a much higher one from Ikea some time. One that goes up to the ceiling but still covers most of the wall as this one does. I have too many things (stationary, books, files, collections of things, study materials, hobby stock, etc) and no place in the house other than that wardrobe to keep it all in.
@Rachel Anne - Glad my “small thing” got YOU inspired for a change lol… I was surprised when I opened my closet this morning and found it so tidy! :p It’s like a dream…
@Forgetfulone - Thanks! Lol… I’m forgetful too ;) Yes, it does feel great to have the place all neat and tidy with everything in sight and FOLDED! Hehe…
Very, very nice! I’m posting on exactly this (but the opposite - winter clothes away :)) on Monday!
